Terms of Service

LAST UPDATED · 10 MAY 2026

EFFECTIVE · 10 MAY 2026

The rules of the road for using Odey — written like a Malawian would explain them, but binding all the same.

These terms are the agreement between you and Odey — the marketplace, not the salon. Read them once, keep them in mind, and we'll all get along fine.

⌁ Article 01

Acceptance

By creating an account or otherwise using Odey — the website, the customer app, or the provider app — you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, that's alright, but please don't use the service.

You must be at least 16 years old to use Odey. If you're booking a service for a minor (a child's haircut, for example), you do so as a responsible adult and accept these terms on their behalf.

⌁ Article 02

What Odey is

Odey is a marketplace. We connect customers in Malawi with beauty and wellness shops — salons, spas, barbershops, nail studios, and the shops that sell the products that go with them.

Every booking and every product order is an agreement between you and the shop. Odey provides the platform, the listings, the messaging, and the payments rail that makes those agreements work. We are not the salon, not the hairstylist, and not the courier — we're the place all of that meets.

⌁ Article 03

Accounts

Give us accurate information when you sign up — your real name, a phone number you actually answer, an email that reaches you. Keep your password to yourself. Anything done from your account is treated as done by you, so a strong password and a locked phone are the minimum.

One account per person. If you run a shop, your shop has its own provider account separate from your personal customer account.

⌁ Article 04

Bookings & cancellations

A booking request becomes a confirmed booking the moment the shop accepts it. Until then, your slot isn't reserved. We'll let you know either way as soon as the shop responds.

Cancellation windows are set by each shop and shown on the booking screen — some shops are flexible up to an hour before, others need 24 hours' notice. Cancel within the window and there's no charge. Miss your appointment without notice and the shop may flag a no-show on your account; repeated no-shows can lead to a booking restriction.

⌁ Article 05

Orders & shipping

Products listed on Odey are sold by the shop, not by Odey. When you place an order, the shop prepares it and a courier picks it up for delivery to your address. Estimated delivery windows are honest guesses based on the courier's usual times — they aren't guarantees, and weather, traffic, and the realities of moving parcels around Malawi sometimes intervene.

If something arrives damaged or doesn't arrive at all, contact the shop first through the in-app chat. If you can't reach a fair resolution, tell us — we'll step in.

⌁ Article 06

Payments

You can pay with Airtel Money, TNM Mpamba, a Visa or Mastercard, or in cash on collection where the shop allows it. Prices are shown in Malawian Kwacha (MWK) and that's what you're charged.

Odey's platform fee is taken from the shop's payout — not added on top of what you pay. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay.

⌁ Article 07

Provider obligations

If you list a shop on Odey, you agree to:

  • Keep your listings accurate — services, prices, durations, photos, and opening hours that match reality.
  • Honour confirmed bookings. Cancellations from the shop's side should be rare and well-explained.
  • Deliver services at the standard you advertise, with the staff and products you describe.
  • Comply with Malawian regulations relevant to your trade — health, tax, licensing, employment.
  • Maintain a valid bank account in your shop's legal name for payouts.

⌁ Article 08

Provider commission & payouts

Odey takes a small platform fee on each completed booking and product order. The exact rate is shown in your provider dashboard before you accept a listing and may be revised with at least 30 days' notice.

Payouts run weekly by bank transfer for everything completed and refund-window-cleared in the prior week. The minimum withdrawal is MWK 5,000; smaller balances roll over to the following week.

⌁ Article 09

Prohibited use

Don't use Odey to:

  • Commit fraud, launder money, or evade tax.
  • Harass, threaten, or abuse other users, shop staff, or the Odey team.
  • Offer or solicit sexually explicit services. Odey is not that platform.
  • Sell regulated goods — alcohol, tobacco, prescription medicines, anything requiring a licence — without holding the licence and following the rules that come with it.
  • Scrape, reverse-engineer, or hammer the platform with automated traffic.

⌁ Article 10

Account termination

We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms — usually after a warning, sometimes immediately if the breach is serious (for example, fraud).

You can delete your account anytime from inside the app. Customer accounts close instantly. Shop and provider accounts have a seven-day grace period so any in-flight bookings, orders, and payouts can settle cleanly before the account is permanently removed.

⌁ Article 11

Liability

Odey is the platform. The quality of a haircut, a facial, a manicure, or a product is the responsibility of the shop that performed the service or sold the item. We'll help you resolve disputes, but we don't guarantee outcomes for services we didn't personally deliver.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Odey's total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the service is capped at the total fees you have paid to Odey in the twelve months before the claim.

⌁ Article 12

Changes to these terms

We'll update these terms now and then as Odey grows. For material changes — new fees, new obligations, anything that meaningfully shifts the deal — we'll send an in-app notice before the changes take effect.

⌁ Article 13

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Malawi. Any dispute that can't be resolved by talking it through goes to the competent courts in Lilongwe.

⌁ Article 14

Contact

Questions, complaints, or anything in between — email us at hi@odey.mw or use the contact page. We read everything.

⌁ End of the document

That's the whole thing.

Fourteen articles, no buried clauses. If anything is unclear, write to hi@odey.mw and a real person from Lilongwe will get back to you.
